travel: hoNEIGHmooning in montreal

this post has been stuck in draft limbo. oops. this trip happened in the beginning of july. being the patriotic americans that we are, me and my neighsbro set off to canada for july 4th hah.

why montreal? that’s the number one question we got from both our friends and the people we met in montreal lol. even though it’s not a hotbed for tourists, it was probably one of my favorite trips. live music, architecture, bike-friendly streets, the FOOOD, and the european feel of the city. my favorite thing about montreal is the PEOPLE! met so many chill folks.

they don’t really play rap in bars doe.

it’s grimy, politically charged, diverse, eccentric… a very unique city.  air canada overbooked my return flight which means $200 voucher and comin back fo dat ass! (ok, maybe toronto instead heh)

highlights:

montreal central hostel

fitz & follwell bike tour

kalmunity live improv lyricists, poets, singers, and musicians

piknik electronik  if the do-over and soulnic had a baby this would be it and its BYOB.

music: soulnic

This past weekend, me and a couple of friends headed over to Griffith Park for Soulnic– a house music picnic thrown by the good folks at Extra Mild Sauce. Drack muse and Derrick Wize killed it! Seriously had the best time dancing for 6 hours straight. The weather was perfect, the beautiful sight of people gettin down to house, kids running around, 100 people doin the electric slide… all kinds of amazing. I have no pictures because I lost my phone on Sunday tho 😦

My favorite part was when they dropped this track 🙂

live: back to basics festival in santa ana

such a dope lineup. visionaries, people under the stairs, zion i, evidence, fashawn, blu, chali 2na, planet asia, strong arm steady, ugly duckling, and rebel to the grain. it’s too bad i only saw the last couple of headliners because i came late. it was hot as a mutha… i can’t see why the observatory couldn’t turn on their A/C. it sucks because towards the end during visionaries you can tell the crowd was runnin on fumes. despite the conditions, i’m still grateful to finally see the visionaries live and to see all these dope crews grace the same stage.
